FOY First of the Year Birds

Every year the "BRDBRAIN" List serve members list the first bird they see in the new year. I usually chirp in my lonley little city bird the Eurasion Collored  Dove, although sometimes it might be a Mocking Bird and once was it was the little Loggerhead Shrike that use to visit the tree out side my condo. The Shrike didn't show up at all this year and I miss him. Oh well I digress. On with the story.

Well being a city dweller and living in a condo to boot my usual FOY is an Eurasian-collared Dove, but since the ground crew have seriously trimmed back the tree just off my balcony the doves have moved their residence and they were not out there this morning.

Now if had been paying attention to the birds this morning on my way to the grocery this morning I might have seen a White-wing Dove, a Mocking bird, a Grackle or a Starling as I drove out of the complex. Or if I had been looking for birds as I normally do I might have looked over on the golf course and seen several Egyptian Geese or the Muscovy Ducks that usually hang out there and if my mind had really been on birds I might have been looking for the Common Myna that I have seen there occasionally or I might have see all the pigeons that hang out hoping for a handout. But as it was for some reason my thought were not of birds and the first bird that I actually saw the first bird to wake me from my stupor was...........are you ready for it???

Drum Roll if you please................

The first bird I really saw this morning was a pair of House Sparrows as I walked out of the store..............Bah Humbug!

Hummmmmmmmmmmm I don't think I even have a picture of a House Sparrow.

Good to know I have company! Yesterday the flock of ruby crowned kinglets came in with the flock of cedar waxwings, the downy woodpecker worked over the pecan tree, but the first birds I saw this morning were the house sparrows hiding in the hedges outside my window. Sounds like you have a lot of good birds to look forward to most every day, Jan. Hope there'll be some good ones tomorrow!

Hey, Jan! I think you need to start paying more attention to the birds. I usually see the house sparrows near my workplace. Great post. I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year!
